The 58th edition of Olympia took place from Dec. 15 to 18 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Competitors in 11 divisions are competed for the Olympia title and this article sheds light on the results and recap of the event.

Olympia is the most prestigious bodybuilding competition of the world and thus marks the pinnacle of competitive bodybuilding in every way. There is no greater prize for a bodybuilder than winning the Olympia title. After moving to Florida in 2020 and 2021 due to the global pandemic, Olympia finally returned home this year to Las Vegas for the 58th edition.

The Mr. Olympia competition that is considered as the main event of the show saw reigning king Mamdouh ‘Big Ramy’ Elssbiay attempt a third straight win. However, the line-up in the division was quite literally the best we have seen in a long time and we will probably talk about it for years to come. So everyone including the champ was aware that it would not be an easy task to emerge victoriously. Especially when he was going up against the established names like Brandon Curry, Nick Walker, Hadi Choopan as well as some dark horses of the division.

The Classic Physique division has become the biggest attraction for many bodybuilding fans and saw reigning 3-time Classic Physique Olympia champion Chris Bumstead attempt a fourth consecutive win at the 2022 Olympia. A band of young lions like Urs Kalecinski and Ramon Rocha Querioz presented a formidable challenge to CBum on stage.

But hold on, this is just a small glimpse of all the excitement that was witnessed at the 2022 Olympia. So keep reading for the results and recap for all the divisions.

The 212 division title has changed hands literally every single year since 7-time 212 Olympia champion Flex Lewis hung up his posing trunks. However, last three years’ winners Derek Lunsford, Kamal Elgargni and Shaun Clarida are regarded as the top crop of the division. However, he chose to compete at 212 and the decision could not have been more correct.

Clarida looked better than ever at the show and had a dominant presence. Kamal Elgargni was expected to be the runner-up. After everything was said and done, Frias finished second and Elgargni made peace with the third spot. Ahmed Ashkanani and Oleh Kryvyi also brought well balanced physiques and finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Chris Bumstead creates history by winning the Classic Physique Olympia title fourth consecutive time! CBum headed into the competition after a year of turmoil including a severe Covid-19 infection, knee, quads and shoulder injuries. He also had to end the client-coach relationship with Iain Valliere. Many speculated the Canadian bodybuilder to lose the edge and cruise to a victory at best. However, they could not be more wrong.

There was no chance for CBum’s competitors once he started the posing routine. The 27-year-old dominated the competition from pillar to post and emerged victoriously at the end. Young contenders Ramon Rocha Querioz and Urs Kalecinski brought amazing packages on stage and looked to be in the best shape of their life. However, it was not enough to catch up with the now 4-time Classic Physique Olympia champion.

Ramon and Urs climbed one spot up from their previous year’s standings and finished second and third, respectively. Former champ Breon Ansley finished fourth while Mike Sommerfeld added the finishing touch to the top five and finished fifth. In spite of having started the year on a dominant note with the 2022 Arnold Classic Physique win, previous year’s runner-up Terrence Ruffin slipped out of the top five and finished sixth – a reminder that margin for error is razor thin at the absolute top.

  • WinnerChris Bumstead ($50,000)
  • Second Place — Ramon Rocha Querioz ($20,000)
  • Third Place — Urs Kalecinski ($10,000)
