The package of Bisqick used to use water to make the mix. The more recent packages use milk. When I make this "homemade bisqick" recipe do I use it as is or do I need to add water to make the biscuits?

  3. Homemade Bisquick Mix Recipe - Food.com (12)

Hi. I made another recipe of "homemade bisqick" and I made biscuits out of it this morning. It is WAY too salty. SO I came to find another recipe and I found this one. It looks like every single review is awesome so I am going to try it, without the salt, just this once and mix it with mine so I don't lose half a container of ingredients. Looking forward to trying this.

If this is the same as Bisquick, how much and which type of liquid is added on a cup-for-cup basis? Thank you!

How can this be converted to whole wheat?

I made this recipe when I wanted to make the Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit recipe which calls for Bisquick. The biscuits turned out great! I followed the recipe exactly, except I didn't sift the dry ingrediants. I used organic non-hydrogenated shotening. I will now stop avoiding recipes which call for Bisquick because now I can make my own Bisquick. Thanks for the great recipe!!!

Absolutely perfect! I didn't sift, but used my Cuisineart on pulse to mix, including the shortening. Also used Cream of Tartar & soda in equal parts for raising agent, as my husband HATES the metallic taste of baking powder. Very happy with how it acted and tasted in my "Baked Ground Beef Bake"! You'll like this too.

I am never wasting my money on store-bought Bisquick again! This recipe makes great pancakes.

Love this recipe! Was glad to find it on here. I used freshly milled whole wheat flour and unsalted butter instead of shortening - in hopes of it being a little healthier!

OUTSTANDING! I made this mix (so easy)and then used some of it to make the dumplings on my homemade chicken and dumplings. The only thing I added was parsley and buttermilk, to make a soft, moist dough. They were the best dumplings I've ever made, because the mix was so well formulated. We liked it better then the original Bisquick mix dumplings. Update 1/5/08: I also used mix to make pancakes (adding a little oil, buttermilk and 1 egg). They were delicious! Thanks for a very delicious "substitute" recipe.

I cut this recipe in half and made added cheddar cheese to make my favorite dumplings for pot roast they came out amazingly this morning I’m going to look for a recipe in here for waffles. Love this Never going to buy bisquik again ??

Regarding the 1T of salt in the recipe, maybe lessening it to maybe 1-1/2t would help, since solid veg shortening has salt added? Or keeping the salt and using unsalted butter or low sodium tub shortening? Just a thought.

I also add 1 tsp. baking soda. Works well. Otherwise I love this recipe. Thanks, better than Bisquick, cheaper too.

I live in a small rural community just south of Kansas City, MO. I have three sons, one in the Navy in Virginia, one in the Air Force in Montana, and one here in MO. All are single. I live with my DH and one very spoiled (rescued)cat named "Oscar" who loves to watch TV when I put his "Hammy Hamister" tape in. I retired from full time work when we were transferred to southern California for three years. Loved That! Since coming back to Missouri, I work a few hours a week for our oldest son. Otherwise I'm usually home on the zaar website! Where does the time go?????I have hundreds of cookbooks and enjoy reading them all, but I especially enjoy the cookbooks with "pictures" of the finished product! My passions, besides my husband, include collecting cookbooks, collecting Boyds Bears, collecting Peteroboro Baskets, vacationing in Palm Springs, getting on the Zaar site, and making our cat happy!I don't really think much about pet peeves, but I do dislike all the "insert" pages the magazine companies put in their magazines!
